George Firefighters Extinguish Grove Fire Sunday Night

George, Iowa — A grove was damaged in a fire on Sunday night, April 19, 2026, near George.

According to George Fire Chief Bill Sprock, at about 10:30 p.m., the George Fire Department was called to the report of a grove fire at 2116 Marsh Avenue, six miles east of George.

When they got there, the chief says the fire department saw old trees and tires on fire, which they proceeded to extinguish.

Sprock says no injuries were reported.

He says the farmer’s burn pit fire had jumped to the grove.

Chief Sprock reports that the damage was limited to the grove and the tires.

He says the firefighters who responded were on the scene for about two hours.
