Hawarden 19-Year-Old Taken To Hospital After Crash

Hawarden, Iowa — A Hawarden 19-year-old was taken to a hospital after a crash near there on Wednesday, July 8th.

The Sioux County Sheriff’s Office says that about 11:45 a.m., 19-year-old Crystal Elizabeth Ramirez-Santillan of Hawarden was driving a 2014 Toyota Corolla northbound on Cherry Avenue, about a mile northeast of Hawarden, when the vehicle entered the shoulder of the roadway. She lost control, and the vehicle rolled onto 440th Street.

They tell us Ramirez-Santillan was trapped inside the vehicle and was extricated by emergency responders. The Hawarden Ambulance took her to Hawarden Regional Hospital. Her injuries were thought to be non-life-threatening.

Ramirez-Santillan was charged with failure to maintain control.

The Sioux County Sheriff’s Office tells us the Hawarden Police Department, Hawarden Ambulance Squad, and the Hawarden Fire Department assisted them with the response to the crash.
