Boyden, Iowa — An Inwood man has been arrested on a kidnapping charge after an incident in Sheldon.

We’re told that 25-year-old Joseph James Haack of Inwood was arrested on Thursday, according to a Sioux County Sheriff’s Office criminal complaint. The report states he forced a victim into his vehicle in Sheldon and drove away against her will.

In his statement, the deputy says Haack threatened to harm the victim’s children if she didn’t go with him. He is accused of telling her he was going to kill her, assaulting her, and not letting her out of his car. She was able to call for help when he stopped for alcohol in Boyden, says the complaint.

He also faces a class D felony count of assaulting a protected party, and could face up to five years in prison on that charge. In addition, Haack faces misdemeanor counts of first-degree harassment, domestic abuse assault, and driving while license denied or revoked.

He faces a preliminary hearing on July 21st.

At last report, Haack remained in the Sioux County Jail in Orange City in lieu of a $50,000 cash bond.
