Iowa (RI) — Iowans are being encouraged to show support for military veterans by participating in Operation Green Light, a nationwide initiative that begins Wednesday and runs through Veterans Day on Nov. 11th.
The program encourages individuals, businesses, and government agencies to display green lights as a visible sign of appreciation for members of the U.S. Armed Forces. Many local, state, and federal buildings are expected to take part.
Leonard Kinney, a veteran leader from Atlantic, says veterans often appreciate knowing their service has not been forgotten.
Kinney says some former service members don’t recognize themselves as veterans simply because they did not serve in combat.
Schools, community organizations, and businesses across Iowa are also expected to participate in Operation Green Light.
The color green was selected as a symbol of hope and renewal. The observance runs from Nov. 4th through Veterans Day on Nov. 11th.
