Le Mars, Iowa (KTIV Sioux City) — The Plymouth County Sheriff’s Office says a Le Mars man has died following a motorcycle crash late Friday night northeast of Le Mars.

Authorities have identified the rider as 33-year-old Dakota Acevedo of Le Mars. Deputies say Acevedo died from injuries sustained in the crash.

Investigators say witnesses reported the motorcycle was traveling at a very high rate of speed when the rider failed to negotiate a curve, causing the motorcycle to leave the roadway and lose control.

When deputies arrived, witnesses were performing life-saving measures on Acevedo, who authorities say was unconscious and not breathing.

Deputies, along with members of the Le Mars Fire Department and Le Mars Police Department, continued rescue efforts at the scene. Acevedo was transported to a Le Mars hospital, stabilized, and then airlifted to a hospital in Sioux Falls, South Dakota.

The sheriff’s office says Acevedo later died from his injuries.

Authorities say the motorcycle was the only vehicle involved in the crash. The accident remains under investigation.
