Orange City, Iowa (Sioux County Radio) — Northwestern College has launched a new initiative to address the growing demand for healthcare leaders in the region.
Northwestern College is expanding its nursing department with a new Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) degree. The program, which focuses on Nursing Education Leadership, is designed for current registered nurses who already hold a baccalaureate degree.
Program director Doctor Karie Stamer explains that the curriculum balances academic instruction with practical management skills.
The program is designed for working professionals, offering a fully independent‑study format that lets nurses complete coursework around their existing shifts. Most courses run for eight weeks, and the full degree typically takes about 24 months to finish.
While the degree emphasizes educational leadership, Stamer notes that the skills are applicable across a variety of medical settings.
The curriculum emphasizes servant leadership and emotional intelligence to prepare nurses for high-pressure, life-and-death situations that are common in the field.
