(KIWA Staff Photo)Orange City, Iowa (Sioux County Radio) — A Rock Valley man has been sentenced to prison after pleading guilty to drug-related charges in Sioux County District Court.
Sioux County Attorney Thomas Kunstle says 28-year-old Taylor Reece Hanson was sentenced Tuesday on two counts of failing to affix a drug tax stamp on a taxable substance — both Class D felonies.
The case began in October 2025, after the Rock Valley Police Department and Lyon County Sheriff’s Office received a report of possible drug activity at a Rock Valley home.
Authorities say a search of the residence turned up nearly 70 grams of cocaine inside a box stored in a plastic container. Officers also found more than $12,000 in cash, drug-cutting agents, and other items commonly associated with drug distribution.
Investigators say Hanson admitted the cocaine, money, and other items belonged to him.
Hanson later pleaded guilty to possession with intent to distribute cocaine in connection with a separate case in South Dakota. He was sentenced there to 10 years in prison, with seven years suspended.
In Sioux County, Hanson received a five-year sentence on each of the two drug-tax-stamp charges. The sentences will run consecutively, for a total of 10 years in the Iowa Department of Corrections.
However, the Iowa sentence will be served at the same time as his South Dakota sentence. Assistant Sioux County Attorney Lori Ehlers prosecuted the case.
