(KIWA Staff Photo)Orange City, Iowa (Sioux County Radio) — A Sioux Center man has been sentenced to prison after pleading guilty to stalking and violating his probation.
Sioux County Attorney Thomas Kunstle says 23-year-old Corbin Joseph VanBriesen was sentenced August 3rd in Sioux County District Court. Assistant County Attorney Lori Ehlers prosecuted the case for the State of Iowa.
Court records show VanBriesen was previously sentenced in August 2025 to a suspended nine-year prison term, along with a one-year jail sentence with all but 270 days suspended. He was released in April 2026 and began a four-year probation period.
Authorities say that on May 16th, 2026, Sioux County Sheriff’s Deputies responded to an ongoing harassment complaint in Hull. Investigators say VanBriesen became upset after a woman refused to pursue a relationship with him and allegedly threatened to:
- report her to the Department of Health and Human Services
- damage her vehicle by cutting brake lines
- put sugar in her gas tank
When law enforcement confronted Van Briesen, officials say he attempted to run but was quickly caught and arrested.
As part of a plea agreement, a judge sentenced Van Briesen to a 10-year indeterminate prison term for stalking. That sentence will run at the same time as the previously suspended nine-year prison sentence, which was also imposed.
