Sanborn, Hartley Firefighters Extinguish Grove Fire

Sanborn, Iowa — A grove was damaged in a fire on Tuesday, May 12, 2026, near Sanborn.

According to Sanborn Fire Chief Randy Lyman, at about 1:25 p.m., the Sanborn Fire Department was called to the report of a grove on fire at 6120 330th Street, about three miles east of Sanborn’s south side.

When they got there, the chief says the fire department saw the grove on fire. He tells us the farmer had started a tree pile fire on Monday and thought it was out but it rekindled in the strong winds and burned the grove. He says a pole in an empty machine shed also burned.

Lyman says no injuries were reported.

The fire department was assisted by the Hartley Fire Department.

He says the firefighters who responded were on the scene for about two hours.
