Maurice, Iowa — A Sheldon woman was taken to jail, and a passenger in her vehicle was taken to a hospital after a crash near Maurice on Sunday, April 12, 2026.
The Sioux County Sheriff’s Office reports that about 2:25 a.m., 20-year-old Mackenzie Lynn McMahon of Sheldon was driving a 2020 Chevy Equinox eastbound on 470th Street east of Maurice, when she lost control, and her vehicle entered the north ditch.
Upon further investigation, Deputies believe that McMahon was under the influence of alcohol.
A passenger in the vehicle was transported to the Orange City Hospital by the Orange City Ambulance for treatment of minor injuries.
McMahon was arrested and transported to the Sioux County Jail, where she was charged with misdemeanor charges of Operating While Intoxicated First Offense, Open Container, and Failure to Maintain Control.
The Sheriff’s Office says the Orange City Police Department and the Orange City Ambulance Squad assisted them.
They also say it should be noted that a criminal charge is merely an accusation, and the defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty.
