Sioux City Man Faces Felony Firearms Charges, More, After Incident At West Sioux High School

Hawarden, Iowa – A call of someone having a firearm on the property of West Sioux High School has landed a Sioux City man in jail, facing a pair of felony charges, as well as one misdemeanor.

According to court documents, Hawarden Police were called to the West Sioux High School Soccer Field. The first officer on scene reportedly saw three individuals running south from the high school. The uniformed officer identified himself and ordered the individuals to stop, according to authorities, but they ignored his commands.

According to the Criminal Complaint filed in the case, one of the individuals allegedly fled through the football practice field, across Buchanan Avenue, into a ditch, where police say he dropped the satchel he was carrying. Police say they located the satchel, which reportedly contained a loaded 9 mm handgun, next to the field approach.

As a result, Hawarden Police have charged 19-year-old Kaiden Ewing, of Sioux City, with felony counts of being a felon in possession of a firearm, and carrying a weapon on school grounds. He was also charged with interference with official acts, for fleeing after being commanded to stop by a law enforcement officer.
