NWC Men’s Golf Opens Season At UC Ferguson Classic

OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla. — The Northwestern College men’s golf team opened up their 2021-22 golf season Monday and Tuesday this week at the UC Ferguson Classic where the team finished tenth of sixteen teams.

Brock Murphy (Jr., Tea, S.D./Tea Area) led the squad in the opening tournament of the season finishing tied for 20th. He was one of two Raiders to shoot a round even at par (71), joined by teammate Trenton De Haan (Jr., Orange City, Iowa/MOC-Floyd Valley) in Round 1.

Kolby Newborg (Jr., Tea, S.D./Tea Area) shot the team’s lowest round of 68 (-3) to wrap up the tournament this morning, being one of two Raiders to shoot under par in any round. Murphy shot a 69 (-2) in the opening round.

Newborg and De Haan were neck-and-neck battling for second and third place finishes on the team with only two shots separating the two. Jackson Laven (Fr., Okoboji, Iowa/Spirit Lake) and Alex Snyder (Sr., Alta, Iowa/Alta-Aurelia) were one shot removed from each other for the fourth and fifth place team spots.

Up Next: The Raiders will hit the course again next Monday, September 13 and Tuesday, September 14 at the Siouxland Invite, sharing hosting duties with Dordt. Day 1, Monday, September 13, will be played at The Ridge Golf Club over in Sioux Center. Tuesday, September 14, will be played at Landsmeer Golf Club in Orange City.
