Sheldon Iowa — Sheldon hosted Okoboji in boys and girls basketball Friday night. The girls game went to the Pioneers 49-40 with the Orab boys taking a 90-62 win.
In the girls game it was tied at the end of the first quarter 12-12. By halftime the Orabs were up 24-18. At the end of three Sheldon remained in front 32-26. Okoboji would catch the Orabs in the fourth quarter, take the lead and go on to win 49-40.
Kallyn Stumbo led all scorers with 17 points Including 11 in the second half. Grace Wintz hit for 11 in the ballgame. Sheldon was led by Katie Wagner with 8 points. Kelsey Van Alsburg, Bryn Groff and Kacy Kamphoff added 7 points each. With the win Okoboji is 2-3 on the year and 1-3 in the conference. Sheldon now stands at 1-5 for the year and 0-5 in the Siouxland.
In the boys game Sheldon led at all the breaks up 18-14 at the end of the first quarter and 43-29 at the half. By the end of three the Orabs were up 63-46 before going on to win 90-62.
Sheldon had four players in double figures. Jaden Kleinhesslink hit for 25 with Tyler Merley hitting for 20. Merley hit 4 three-pointers on the night while Kleinhesslink hit 5. As a team Sheldon would end the night with a dozen buckets from behind the arc. Kyle Boerhave hit for 13 points. Ryan Van Marel added another 10. Okoboji got a game high 28 points from Bryce Peter including 4 three-point buckets. Kip Herd pumped in 14 points.
With the win Sheldon is off to a 4-1 start and 3-1 in the conference. Okoboji is 0-4 on the year and for the season. Next for Sheldon will be a Tuesday night trip to MOC Floyd Valley. Okoboji will host Graettinger Terril on Monday night.
