Newton, Iowa (RI) — Ty Gibbs took the lead with 20 laps remaining and held off teammate Christopher Bell to win the Iowa Corn 350.

It was Gibbs’ second NASCAR Cup Series win of the season.

The victory moves Gibbs into second place in the Cup Series standings.

Gibbs is the grandson of team owner and former NFL coach Joe Gibbs.

Bell was chasing his first win of the season but had to settle for his seventh runner-up finish.

He made several attempts to get around Gibbs but couldn’t complete the pass.

Cup series leader Denny Hamlin battled brake issues throughout the weekend. He started 29th but roared through the field to finish a satisfying fifth.

Hamlin said he wasn’t sure the car would even make it to the end.

Other top-five finishers included Ryan Blaney (3rd) and Josh Berry (4th).
