Kingsley, Iowa — A former police chief in Kingsley has pleaded guilty to several charges that accuse him of using police resources to stalk his ex-girlfriend, and he now faces the possibility of spending over 30 years behind bars.
According to court records, 55-year-old James Dunn is pleading guilty to nine of the 19 charges against him, including six felony charges of Unauthorized Dissemination of Intelligence Data, and three misdemeanor charges of Misconduct in Office. The other charges were dropped as part of the plea agreement.
Dunn faces up to 33 years in prison. Sentencing will be set in Plymouth County District Court on November 3rd.
Dunn was accused of using privileged law enforcement data to obtain information about the woman he had previously been in a relationship with, as well as the woman’s current boyfriend, and the boyfriend’s roommate. Dunn was arrested on February 15th of this year at his Kingsley home.
According to documents, Dunn and the woman were in a relationship for about a year and a half until November of last year when the woman ended the relationship.
