Northwest Iowa — Teacher Appreciation Week is from Monday, May 8th, until Friday, May 12th.
Many schools have plans to celebrate their teachers or any staff who teach their students. Sheldon Community Schools Superintendent Corey Myer says they will bring in food from an outside vendor and there will be a gift for each staff member. Myer tells us every staff member at Sheldon Schools teaches students.
Sibley-Ochedeyan Community School Superintendent James Craig says the theme of that week will be “Up”. When asked what he meant by “Up” he said teachers uplift their students and during Teacher Appreciation Week the school will be uplifting their teachers. Craig also says there will be treats for all staff and many surprises that he did not want to share so it would be kept a surprise.
West Lyon School Superintendent Shawn Kreman tells us local banks will have breakfast for teachers, provide some snacks, and will hand out little gifts to teachers. He says there will also be other activities throughout the week. Kreman says most area schools are probably doing the same thing, treats and little gifts, for their staff.
Staff at Central Lyon tell us Superintendent Brent Jorth will be grilling a special meal for teachers, in addition to other “thank-yous” the teachers will receive.
If you see a teacher and want to let them know that you appreciate them, something as simple as a “thank you” may mean the world to that teacher.
