Iowa GOP Wants Right To Bear Arms In Iowa Constitution

Iowa Capitol DomeDes Moines, Iowa — One of the topics for discussion in the Iowa State Legislature this year is the right to keep and bear arms.

The Second Amendment to the United States Constitution reads: “A well-regulated militia, being necessary to the security of a free state, the right of the people to keep and bear arms, shall not be infringed.”

But District 2 State Senator Randy Feenstra of Hull tells us the state constitution doesn’t mirror the US one, and Republicans in the legislature have taken aim on fixing the disparity.

Feenstra says changing the state constitution to include the right to bear arms is one of four priorities that Republicans are pushing for this year. He tells us about the other three.

Senator Feenstra serves Sioux, O’Brien and Cherokee counties as well as four townships in eastern Plymouth County.
