Ashton, Iowa — An Ashton man has been arrested on a felony charge after a traffic stop near there on Thursday.
A criminal complaint submitted by the Osceola County Sheriff’s Office alleges that 50-year-old Arvin Gene Krahling of Ashton is accused of driving drunk and resisting arrest.
In his statement, the deputy says Krahling had bloodshot and watery eyes, slurred speech, unsteady balance and an odor of alcoholic beverage. He is also accused of having an open container. The deputy says Krahling failed field sobriety tests and a preliminary breath test showed him to have a blood-alcohol level above the legal limit of 0.08. In addition, he is said to have been driving while his driving privileges were revoked. When deputies attempted to arrest him, they tell us he resisted them, resulting in injuries to two deputies.
Krahling was charged with operating while intoxicated, third or subsequent offense, a class D felony. If convicted, he could face up to five years in prison. He is also charged with Interference with Official Acts-Bodily Injury, Driving While Revoked, Driving While Suspended, Operation without Interlock Device, and Open Container.
A preliminary hearing has been set for August 17th.
Krahling was booked into the Osceola County Jail in Sibley, and was released on Monday after posting an $8000 cash or surety bond.
