Domestic Abuse Assault Complaint Leads To Multiple Charges

Sheldon, Iowa — A Hartley man faces numerous charges in connection with an alleged domestic assault incident in Sheldon.

According to court records, the alleged incident occurred very early Sunday at a Sheldon residence. 32-year-old Gary Hovey is accused of assaulting a domestic partner, taking her cell phone to prevent her from calling police, applying pressure to her throat impeding airflow and displaying a handgun to her in a threatening manner.

Sheldon Police arrested Hovey on the following charges: Control of a Firearm, a Class D Felony; Domestic Abuse Assault Impeding Air or Blood Flow, an Aggravated Misdemeanor; Assault While Displaying a Dangerous Weapon, an Aggravated Misdemeanor; Possession of a Dangerous Weapon While Intoxicated, a Serious Misdemeanor; Obstructing Emergency Communications, a Simple Misdemeanor; Interference With Official Acts, a Simple Misdemeanor; and Public Intoxication, a Simple Misdemeanor.

Hovey was taken to the O’Brien County Jail. A Preliminary Hearing on the case is scheduled for October 5th.
