Four Taken To Hospital After Boyden Area Accident

Boyden, Iowa — Four people were taken to the hospital after an accident near Boyden on Thursday, July 13th.

The Sioux County Sheriff’s Office reports that at about 7:30 p.m. 63-year-old Robert Feldman of George was driving a 2006 Peterbilt semi-tractor northbound on Kennedy Avenue, three and a half miles north of Boyden. They say 18-year-old Cody Van Engen of Orange City was driving a 2014 Ford F-250 southbound on Kennedy Avenue.

According to the report, Van Engen crossed the center of the roadway and struck the Peterbilt head-on. After impacting the Peterbilt, the Ford left the roadway, entered the east ditch and came to rest in a bean field.

The sheriff’s office says the Boyden Ambulance took Van Engen and three passengers in the Ford to Sanford Sheldon Medical Center. Their injuries were described as “minor.”

Damage to the Peterbilt was estimated at $20,000; damage to the Ford was estimated at $15,000. The bean field sustained approximately $1,000 in damage.

Van Engen was cited on charges of failure to maintain control of a motor vehicle, driving in the wrong lane, and use of an electronic communications device while operating a motor vehicle.

The sheriff’s office says the Boyden Ambulance Squad and Boyden Fire Department assisted with the response to the accident.
