Sioux Center, Iowa — A Le Mars woman was taken to the hospital after an accident in Sioux Center on Wednesday, October 23, 2019.
The Sioux Center Police Department reports that about 2:30 p.m., 22-year-old Morgan Kooima of Rock Valley was driving a 2008 Chevy van westbound on 20th Street Southeast in Sioux Center. Twenty-five-year-old Sierra Winters of Le Mars was northbound on Highway 75 in a 2001 Dodge SUV.
The report says that Kooima stopped for Highway 75, and was waiting to cross the highway. Winters was northbound on Highway 75 in the inside lane. A non-contact vehicle was in the
outside, northbound lane of Highway 75 preparing to turn east on 20th Street Southeast. Kooima says he did not see the Winters SUV, pulled into the intersection, and collided with the Winters vehicle.
The Sioux Center Ambulance took Winters to Sioux Center Health Hospital.
The vehicles sustained $10,000 in damage, each, according to the report.
Kooima was charged with failure to yield from a stop sign.
According to Sioux Center Police, the Iowa State Patrol, the Sioux Center Fire Department, and Sioux Center Ambulance Squad assisted with the response to the accident.
