Man Accused Of Defrauding Sioux Center Walmart

Sioux Center Iowa — One man has been arrested on a felony charge in Sioux Center after authorities say he defrauded a store by tricking a clerk.

According to Sioux Center Police Chief Mike Halma, 44-year-old Ioan Anghel entered the Sioux Center Walmart on October 22nd and allegedly used a quick-change scheme to defraud the store out of a large amount of cash. Halma says the scam allegedly normally involves an inexperienced clerk, a big bill, counting change, folding the money, a back-and-forth exchange between the clerk and the perpetrator, and ends with the clerk thinking they have given out the right amount and the perpetrator making off with a large sum of money that they shouldn’t have received.

Halma says Anghel is also accused of using the scheme in Le Mars and Sioux City. He says he was apprehended in Sioux City on Sunday and at last report would face charges in all three jurisdictions.
