Little Rock, Iowa — A Montana man was injured in a truck rollover near Little Rock on Tuesday, October 8, 2019.
The Osceola County Sheriff’s Office says that about 3:00 p.m., 54-year-old Byron John Sharp of Whitehall, Montana was driving a 2007 Volvo Semi for Jarmer Manure Tanking Service of Fulda, Minnesota, about two miles east of the north side of Little Rock, in Osceola County.
The report says Sharp was turning northbound onto Monroe Avenue from 140th Street and failed to make a wide enough turn. The trailer was pulled into the ditch in the intersection. According to deputies, the trailer began to roll into the ditch and pulled the power unit into the ditch and it rolled over completely, coming to rest on the passenger side.
They tell us Sharp was trapped in the cab of the semi and had to be removed by mechanical means. Little Rock Fire Chief Joe Schilling says the Little Rock Fire Department used Jaws of Life and airbags to free the driver. Sharp was transported to the Osceola Regional Health Center. His injuries were described as “incapacitating.”
Osceola County Sheriff’s officials say that when the vehicle went off the roadway it caused damage to the shoulder and ditch of Monroe Avenue, causing approximately $1,000 in damage. Sharp was hauling 6,000 gallons of manure and an estimated 5,000 gallons spilled into the ditch. The truck received about $30,000 in damages.
The Sheriff’s Office says the Iowa State Patrol, the Sibley Ambulance Squad, the Sibley Fire Department, the Little Rock Ambulance Squad, and the Little Rock Fire Department assisted with the response to the accident. Schilling says emergency crews were on the scene for about two hours.
