Everly, Iowa — One student was taken to the hospital after a mishap involving a Clay Central-Everly school bus late Wednesday afternoon.
According to the Clay County Sheriff’s Office, shortly before 4:30 Wednesday, a 2019 Thomas school bus, driven by 55-year-old Dean Stein of Fostoria, was eastbound in the 1200 block of 280th Street, north of Everly, when the muddy road conditions caused the bus to lose traction and enter the south ditch, with the driver side of the bus losing contact with the road.
At that time of the mishap there were 3 minor children on board the bus, according to authorities. Deputies say 2 of the students were released to parents called to the scene and 1 was taken by Spencer Ambulance to the Spencer Hospital for a report of pain. The bus driver was not injured and this accident is still under investigation.
According to authorities, no damage estimate is available, since the bus, as of late Thursday morning, had not been removed from the ditch due to road conditions.
The Clay County Sheriff’s Office was assisted by Everly Fire and Rescue and the Iowa State Patrol.
