Neighboring Units Respond To Grain Elevator Explosion

Chandler, Minnesota — A grain elevator explosion in southwest Minnesota on Wednesday afternoon caused the response of several departments, some from near our area, with one person injured in the blast.

The injured person was taken to a local hospital. Their condition is unknown.

Eight fire departments and several other units responded to the scene in Chandler and they were on the scene for a long time, between 12:40 p.m. Wednesday and 4:20 a.m. Thursday, with some firefighters sticking around on the scene to make sure nothing in the rubble reignites.

It’s unknown at this time what caused the explosion at the Chandler Feed Company.

The Minnesota State Patrol, Worthington Fire Department and Nobles County Emergency Management all assisted at the scene, as did various units from Pipestone, Ivanhoe, Lake Wilson, Slayton, Iona, Woodstock, and Edgerton.
