Sheldon, Iowa — Two Minnesota residents were injured after their truck and 5th wheel trailer were toppled by the wind Friday night north of Sheldon.
The Iowa State Patrol says the mishap took place shortly after 9:30 Friday night, when a 2005 Chevrolet Silverado pickup, driven by 53-year old Jodi Shupe of New Germany, Minnesota, was pulling a 5th wheel camper northbound on Highway 60, just north of the intersection with 280th Street. According to the trooper’s crash report, a gust of wind flipped the camper onto its side, causing the pickup to go up onto the driver’s side two wheels. Troopers say the pickup and camper then separated, with the pickup rolling into the east ditch, where it came to rest on its wheels. The camper reportedly came to rest on the east shoulder of Highway 60.
According to the accident report, Shupe, and a passenger in her truck, 48-year old Brian Shupe, also of New Germany, Minnesota, were taken to the Sanford Sheldon Medical Center by the Sheldon Community Ambulance Team.
Troopers estimate damage to Shupe’s truck at $15-thousand. No damage report is available on the 5th wheel camper.
