Passenger Airlifted After Car VS Semi Crash Near Sioux Center

Sioux Center, Iowa — A Hawarden woman was airlifted to a Sioux Falls hospital in the aftermath of a two-vehicle crash Monday afternoon at the Million Dollar Corner.

According to Sioux County Deputies, the crash happened shortly before 3:00 pm Monday when a 2010 Ford Edge, driven by 18-year-old Josalyn Van Egdom-Briggs of Hawarden was westbound on Highway 10, approaching the Highway 75 intersection. Deputies say Van Egdom-Briggs drove into the intersection and collided with a 2014 Kenworth semi-tractor pulling a freight trailer, driven by 60-year-old Larry Sorensen of Hastings, Nebraska, who was southbound on Highway 75.

Authorities say a passenger in the car, 73-year-old Linda Van Egdom of Hawarden was flown from the crash scene by Avera Careflight and taken to Sanford USD Medical Center in Sioux Falls for treatment of serious injuries.

Deputies estimate damage to the Kenworth at approximately $20,000, with an estimated $10,000 damage to the Ford.

Van Egdom-Briggs was reportedly cited for failure to yield from a stop sign.

The sheriff’s office was assisted by the Sioux Center Fire Department, Sioux Center Rescue, Sioux Center Ambulance, Maurice Fire Department, Maurice Rescue, Sioux Center Police Department, Orange City Police Department and Iowa State Patrol.
