Primghar Woman Taken To Hospital, Charged After Accident Near Archer

Archer, Iowa– A Primghar woman was taken to the hospital and also faces charges after an accident near Archer on Wednesday, December 21, 2022.

The O’Brien County Sheriff’s Office reports that at about 7:35 a.m., 41-year-old Cassandra Steffens of Primghar was driving a 1997 Chevy pickup eastbound on 390th Street near Archer. They tell us that 66-year-old Kent Hurtig of Archer was westbound on 390th in a 2003 Chevy pickup.

The report says that Steffens crossed the centerline and began drifting into the westbound lane. Hurtig observed the Steffens vehicle cross the centerline and attempted to avoid the accident by pulling onto the north shoulder. Steffens continued to drift into oncoming traffic and the vehicles collided.

The Primghar Ambulance took Steffens to Mercy One- Primghar Hospital.

Both vehicles were totaled in the accident. The Steffens pickup sustained $4000 in damages, and Hurtig’s pickup sustained $15,000 in damages.

The deputy’s report says that Steffens’ driver’s license status is barred. He says there was no insurance on the pickup, and she says she does not remember drifting into oncoming traffic. Steffens was charged with driving while barred, driving while license suspended, and no insurance — accident related. The owner of the pickup that she was driving was cited on a charge of permitting an unauthorized person to drive.
