Rock Valley, Iowa — A Rock Valley man is jailed on a trio of domestic violence-related charges stemming from a report of alleged incidents that took place over the past few weeks.
According to court records, 20-year-old Jonathon Vargas allegedly assaulted his live-in girlfriend with a knife late last month, cutting her on her left leg. Then late last week, Vargas is accused of assaulting the same victim, allegedly grabbing her by her hair and throwing her to the cement, after which he is accused of crawling on top of her and striking her in the head several times.
Rock Valley Police Chief Monte Warburton says the alleged victim reported both incidents on Saturday, November 6th. The investigating officer reportedly saw sufficient physical evidence to arrest and charge Vargas with: Willful Injury Causing Bodily Injury, a Class D Felony and Domestic Abuse Assault While Displaying or Using a Dangerous Weapon, an Aggravated Misdemeanor in connection with the October incident; as well as Domestic Abuse Assault Causing Injury, a Serious Misdemeanor, in connection with the most recent incident.
Online court records indicate that a Preliminary Hearing in the case is scheduled for 4:00 pm on Wednesday November 17th in Sioux County Magistrate Court.
As of midday Wednesday, Vargas remained in the Sioux County Jail in Orange City, according to online jail records.
