George Man Sentenced After Armed Incident at Last Call Saloon

George, Iowa (SCR) – A George man has been sentenced following an armed incident at the Last Call Saloon in George late last year.

According to a release from Lyon County Attorney Nolan McGowan, 58-year-old Craig Alan Geerdes was sentenced May 15th in Lyon County District Court on charges connected to a December 2025 incident involving a shotgun at the George bar.

Authorities say the case stemmed from an incident on December 29th, 2025, when Geerdes entered the Last Call Saloon and was told to leave because of prior altercations.

Prosecutors say Geerdes left the establishment, went to his vehicle, retrieved a .410 shotgun, and then re-entered the bar. Court records state Geerdes pointed the shotgun at the owner and allegedly threatened to shoot him.

According to the release, Geerdes then left the bar and fired the shotgun into the ground outside before driving away.

The Lyon County Attorney’s Office prosecuted the case in cooperation with the Lyon County Sheriff’s Office.

Plea Agreement and Sentencing

As part of a plea agreement reached May 15th, Geerdes pleaded guilty to Going Armed with Intent, a Class D felony.

The court sentenced him to an indeterminate prison term not to exceed five years, but suspended that sentence and placed him on probation for two years.

The court also ordered Geerdes to:

Pay a $1,025 criminal fine plus surcharge, court costs, and victim restitution

Complete substance abuse and mental health evaluations and follow recommendations

Surrender all firearms and ammunition

Be barred for life from possessing, purchasing, or shipping firearms or ammunition

Stay off the property of the Last Call Saloon

Complete anger management classes

Submit a DNA sample for profiling

Additional Charges:

Geerdes also pleaded guilty to Assault with a Firearm and Harassment in the First Degree–Threaten Forcible Felony, both aggravated misdemeanors.

On those charges, the court sentenced him to 180 days in the Lyon County Jail, with all but 60 days suspended on each count. Instead of serving the jail sentences in custody, Geerdes was ordered to serve a total of 120 days on alcohol monitoring, house arrest, and GPS monitoring with work release.

The court also ordered two years of probation, fines and court costs, and a no-contact order involving the owner of the Last Call Saloon.
