Discarded Cigarette Blamed For Thursday Ditch Fire

Paullina, Iowa – A discarded cigarette is being blamed as the likely cause of a ditch fire near Paullina Thursday afternoon.

According to a spokesman for the Paullina Fire Department, the call went out about 4:30 Thursday afternoon, to a location on 460th Street, or Highway 10, near Paullina.

Firefighters were able to extinguish the small blaze in short order, requiring them to be on the scene for about five minutes.

The fire department spokesman tells KIWA that, while this was a fairly insignificant blaze, it should serve as a reminder to properly dispose of all smoking materials.
