Sheldon, Iowa — A Sheldon bicyclist was injured in an accident on Tuesday, September 20th north of town.
According to the Sioux County Sheriff’s Office, about 5:20 p.m., 55-year-old Douglas Roth of George was driving a 2004 Pontiac Grand Prix westbound on 280th Street, four miles north of Sheldon. They tell us that 59-year-old Michael Ahlers of Sheldon was riding a bicycle, also westbound on 280th Street in front of Roth.
Roth attempted to pass Ahlers and struck the bicycle.
SCAT took Ahlers to Sanford Sheldon Medical Center.
Damage to the Pontiac was estimated at $1,500. Ahlers’ customized bicycle sustained approximately $5,500 in damage.
Roth was cited on a charge of operating a motor vehicle without insurance and operating a motor vehicle too close to a bicyclist.
The sheriff’s office says the Sheldon Fire Company, Sheldon Community Ambulance Team and the O’Brien County Sheriff’s Office assisted them with the response to the accident.
