Sheldon, Iowa — A Sheldon man has been arrested on a felony eluding charge after an alleged pursuit in and near Sheldon.

According to a criminal complaint filed with the O’Brien County Clerk of Court’s Office by the Sheldon Police, 24-year-old Jenns Amador of Sheldon is accused of leading an officer on a chase. He was arrested on Thursday.

In his statement, the officer says he saw Amador driving on Pine Street near North 9th Avenue. He said he knew Amador’s license status was barred and he didn’t have high-risk insurance as he is required to, so he attempted to make a traffic stop. Only Amador didn’t stop. He is said to have taken Monroe Avenue to Northwest Boulevard before turning around and stopping.

Amador was charged with eluding at 25 miles per hour or more over the speed limit, a class D felony. If convicted, he could face up to five years in prison. He also faces misdemeanor charges of possession of marijuana, open container, littering, a window requirement violation, driving while suspended, and driving while barred.

A preliminary hearing in the case has been set for July 30th.

At last report, Amador remained in the O’Brien County Jail in Primghar in lieu of bond.
