Ashton, Iowa — A Sioux City man has been arrested on a felony drug charge after an incident near Ashton.
A criminal complaint filed by the sheriff’s office in Osceola County details charges against 71-year-old Franklin Grave of Sioux City, alleging that he used methamphetamine at the Ashton Pit and offered it to another person. He was arrested last week.
In his statement, the deputy says he was advised that Grave had been sleeping at the park for the previous two nights. When he found him lying on a picnic table, Grave allegedly admitted to using methamphetamine earlier in the day. The deputy found a meth pipe that Grave had allegedly been concealing, and it had a crystal substance inside.
Grave was charged with third or subsequent possession of a controlled substance, a class D felony. If convicted, he could face up to five years in prison. He also faces a misdemeanor charge of possession of drug paraphernalia.
He faces a preliminary hearing on July 8th.
At last report, Grave remained in the Osceola County Jail in Sibley in lieu of a $5000 bond.
