Ashton Post Office Closed: Ashton Residents To Get Mail In Sibley Temporarily

Ashton, Iowa (KUOO/KIWA) — Residents of one northwest Iowa town now have to drive nearly seven miles for U.S. Postal services.

A notice from the U.S. Postal Service says the post office in Ashton is temporarily closed, citing “irreparable safety and health concerns for employees and customers”. It doesn’t mention a reopening date.

In the meantime, those with an Ashton ZIP code will need to drive to the post office in Sibley for retail and post office box service.

A clerk at the Sibley Post Office says the Ashton Post Office as an institution is closed temporarily, but the post office will not be resuming service in the same building due to those safety and health concerns. They also told us that the postal service hopes to install what they call centralized box units, or CBUs, somewhere in Ashton, from which people can get their mail for the time being.
