Sioux County, Iowa — Sioux County Sheriff’s Deputies were kept busy over the weekend responding to a number of traffic accidents.
About 10:20 Friday evening, deputies say 15-year old Brianna Kollis, of Inwood, was driving a 2001 Pontiac Grand Prix northbound on Main Street in Hull when she reported a vehicle malfunction caused her to lose control of the vehicle and strike a parked and unattended 2006 Chrysler Pacifica, owned by Brian and Laurie Van Schouwen, of Ashton. No injuries were reported. Deputies say the Pontiac sustained approximately $4,000 in damages. The Chrysler sustained an estimated $5,000 in damages.
On Saturday, at 12:25 p.m., the Sioux County Sheriff’s Office investigated a motor vehicle accident that occurred at the intersection of Hickory Avenue and 400th Street, one mile east of Sioux Center. According to authorities, 65-year old Jean Calkhoven, of Hull, was driving a 2012 Chrysler 200 Touring eastbound on 400th Street. 19-year old Dustin Moser, of Sanborn, was driving a 2007 Ford Taurus eastbound on 400th Street following Calkhoven. Deputies say Calkhoven stopped for oncoming traffic before turning attempting a left turn onto Hickory Avenue and Moser struck Calkhoven’s car. No injuries were reported. The Chrysler sustained approximately $4,500 in damages. The Ford sustained an estimated $5,000 in damages. Moser was cited for following too close. The Sheriff’s Office was assisted by the Sioux Center Police Department and Iowa State Patrol.
Shortly before 10 pm Saturday, the Sioux County Sheriff’s Office investigated a motor vehicle accident that occurred on Highway 75, one mile north of Sioux Center. According to the report, 38-year old Jose Lopez, of Sioux Center, was driving a 2015 Saturn Outlook southbound on Highway 75. A vehicle traveling southbound on Highway 75 ahead of Lopez reportedly lost a hay bale from the back of their vehicle which was struck by the Lopez vehicle. The vehicle transporting the bales did not stop and could not be located, according to authorities. No injuries were reported. The Saturn sustained approximately $800 in damages. The Sioux County Sheriff’s Office was assisted by the Sioux Center Police Department.
On Sunday, at 6:24 p.m., the Sioux County Sheriff’s Office investigated a motor vehicle accident that occurred on Highway 60, five miles south of Orange City. According to authorities, 35-year old Amanda Larson, of Le Mars, was driving a 2016 Mazda 6 Sport northbound on Highway 60 in the left Lane. 60-year old Karl Fricke, of Council Bluffs, was driving a 2004 Ford F250 pulling a trailer in the right lane. As Larson passed Fricke a log reportedly dislodged from Fricke’s trailer and struck the Mazda. No injuries were reported. The Mazda sustained approximately $1,500 in damages.
