Lyon County, Iowa — A Yankton, South Dakota man faces a pair of felony narcotics-related charges following his arrest by Lyon County Deputies.
According to the Lyon County Sheriff’s Office, they were requested to assist the Lincoln County, South Dakota Sheriff’s Office with an allegedly impaired driver entering Iowa on Highway 18. Authorities say the vehicle was stopped and the driver identified as 31-year-old Devon Frederick of Yankton, who was arrested for Failure to Have a Valid Driver’s License.
Deputies say Lyon County K9 Rizzo was called to the scene, and reportedly alerted to the odor of illegal drugs coming from the vehicle. Deputies then sought a search warrant for the vehicle, which was granted later that day. Authorities say when they executed the search warrant, they allegedly discovered three bags of methamphetamine totaling 184 grams in weight. Deputies report multiple syringes were found in the vehicle, as well.
Following the search, authorities charged Frederick with Possession with Intent to Deliver Methamphetamine, A Class B Felony, as well as Failure to Affix a Drug Tax Stamp, a Class D Felony.
At last report, Frederick was being held in the Lyon County Jail at Rock Rapids in lieu of a $100,000 bond. A preliminary hearing in the case is set for July 27th at 10:30 am.
