Fostoria, Iowa– A Terril man has died as the result of injuries sustained in a pickup versus farm tractor accident near Fostoria on Sunday, April 2, 2023.
The Clay County Sheriff’s Office reports that at about 6:00 p.m., Jon Hjelm of Spencer was driving a 2022 Chevy pickup northbound on Highway 71, south of Fostoria. They tell us that Roland Taylor of Terril was also northbound on 71, ahead of Hjelm on an International 300 farm tractor.
The report says that through the investigation it was determined that Hjelm rear-ended the tractor causing Taylor to be ejected. He died from his injuries.
The Spencer Ambulance took Hjelm to Spencer Hospital.
Hjelm’s Chevy pickup was totaled in the accident and Taylor’s International 300 farm tractor sustained minor damages.
The sheriff’s office says the Iowa State Patrol, Fostoria Fire Department, Spencer Hospital Ambulance, Bud’s Service, and Boji Towing assisted with the response to the accident, which they tell us is still under investigation by the Iowa State Patrol, Clay County Sheriff’s Office, and Clay County Attorney’s Office.
