Paullina, Iowa — Three fire departments responded to a fire call in rural Paullina on Thursday, July 25th, 2019 — but it turned out that they wouldn’t have had to respond.
Paullina Fire Chief Brent Noteboom tells us that the Paullina Fire Department was called out to a fire in a building on an abandoned farm site in the 4200 mile of Olive Avenue, four miles west and four miles north of Paullina, about 9:10 p.m. Firefighters from Archer and Primghar were called in for more water as well.
Noteboom tells us that after they had fought the fire for a while, the owner of the abandoned farmstead arrived on the scene and told them that he had been burning the building intentionally.
According to Noteboom, the farmplace had been abandoned for over thirty years. He says the 20 firefighters who responded were on the scene for about two hours.
