Two Men Facing Sex Abuse Charges After Incident At Sheldon Hotel

Sheldon, Iowa — A Sergeant Bluff man and one from San Antonio, Texas have been arrested on sex abuse and false imprisonment charges after an incident at a Sheldon hotel.

According to a criminal complaint filed with the O’Brien County Clerk of Court’s Office by the Sheldon Police Department, 32-year-old Said Tanai of Sergeant Bluff and 30-year-old Hazrat Khafir of San Antonio are accused of holding a victim against their will and sexual assault. They were arrested on Saturday.

In his statement, the officer says the defendants held the victim against her will, preventing her from leaving, and performed a sex act against her without her consent. It says they also threatened her.

Both Tanai and Kafir were charged with second-degree sexual abuse, a class B felony. If convicted, they could each face up to 25 years in prison. They also face misdemeanor charges of false imprisonment.

Both face a preliminary hearing on the charges on June 26th.

At last report, both men remained in the O’Brien County Jail in Primghar.

The incident reportedly stemmed from a text to 911 by the alleged victim.
