Rock Valley Accident Sends Sioux Center Teen To Hospital

Rock Valley, Iowa — A Sioux Center teen was taken to a hospital after an accident near Rock Valley on Sunday, August 16th.

According to the Sioux County Sheriff’s Office, about 11:45 a.m., 18-year-old Yovani Lopez-Chilel of Sioux Center was driving a 2012 Lincoln MKX northbound on Elmwood Avenue, three miles south of Rock Valley. As Lopez-Chilel approached a non-contact vehicle, he lost control of his Lincoln, which entered the west ditch, struck a MidAmerican Energy Company electrical utility pole, and rolled.

The Rock Valley Ambulance took Lopez-Chilel to Hegg Hospital Avera in Rock Valley.

According to the deputy’s report, the Lincoln sustained about $10,000 in damage. The electrical property sustained an estimated $5,000 in damage.

Lopez-Chilel was cited on a charge of operating a motor vehicle without a valid driver’s license and no proof of motor vehicle liability insurance-accident related.

The sheriff’s office reports the Rock Valley Fire Department and Rock Valley Ambulance Squad assisted at the scene.
