Northwest Iowa — The dry summer we’ve been experiencing has taken its toll on crops in the area, but Iowa State University Extension and Outreach Agronomist Joel De Jong says the condition of the crops is as spotty as the rain has been.
The forecast for northwest Iowa calls for temperatures and precipitation to both be in the below normal category. De Jong says the cooler temperatures is good news for farmers.
De Jong says that the area, on average has seen rainfall in the past 60-days equaling only about 25-percent of a normal year’s rainfall, with widely varying percentages from place to place.
In downtown Sheldon, in the past 60-days, we’ve received about 40-percent of the rainfall we’d experience during the same period in a normal year.
