Sioux Center, Iowa (Sioux County Radio) — The Sioux Center Community Foundation has awarded $34,000 in grants to 11 local organizations through its Generations Community Endowment Fund.
Foundation president Kevin Wolterstorff says the grant program was created after the foundation saw its investments outperform long-term needs, allowing additional support for local nonprofits.
The grants support a wide range of projects across the community, from long-term development efforts to meeting immediate needs.
Some of the funding is helping drive continued development at the Sioux County Ag Expo site. A $3,000 grant will support work tied to the new People’s Bank Pavilion, along with landscaping and accessibility improvements as the site continues to expand.
Sioux County Ag Expo representative Jenn Vermeer says the project is continuing to build momentum.
Other funding is addressing basic needs in the community. A $3,500 grant will support the Hope Food Pantry, which serves around 150 families each week and more than 1,200 families annually. The funding will help add a walk-in cooler to better store fresh food.
Director Marianne Sjaarda says there are often misconceptions about who uses those services.
Additional grants are also supporting a variety of community-focused efforts. Sioux Center Health Community Foundation will use its $4,000 award toward equipment and internal needs tied to a planned surgery center expansion. Midwest Honor Flight will upgrade aging technology used to manage veteran trips, while ATLAS of Sioux County plans to expand space for financial education programming.
The American Legion will use a $5,000 grant to replace an aging and inefficient entryway, while Winter Warm Up will purchase winter gear distributed across Sioux County each year, often serving thousands of items to families in need.
