Officials Investigating String Of Auto Burglaries

Lyon County, Iowa — The Lyon County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a string of vehicle burglaries in Inwood and Lester.

According to Lyon County Sheriff Stewart Vander Stoep, a total of seven cars were burglarized sometime during the night of Tuesday, August 22nd, and the morning of Wednesday, August 23rd.

Sheriff Vander Stoep says each of the cars burglarized had been left unlocked, and the perpetrator, or perpetrators went through the vehicles looking for valuables.  Vander Stoep says the items taken were mainly purses, gift cards, and debit cards, but some higher value items were also taken in a couple of the burglaries, including a DVD player and a laptop computer.

The Sheriff says that one of the stolen purses was found later alongside a Lyon County road.  He says it appears the burglars went through the purse, taking anything of value, before throwing it away on the side of the road. As a result of the purse’s discovery, Vander Stoep asks residents to contact the Sheriff’s Office if they see any personal items alongside the road. He says residents who may have seen anything suspicious Tuesday night or Wednesday morning in either Lester or Inwood should call the Lyon County Sheriff’s Office at 712-472-8300.

Vander Stoep also reminds people to remove valuables and lock their cars, not just overnight, but anytime they leave them unattended.
