Sheldon, Iowa — The Sheldon City Council met in regular session at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday afternoon in the council chambers at the Sheldon Community Services Center.
The council approved their consent agenda.
The council approved an ordinance to change the library board’s terms of office.
They considered a resolution approving an engagement agreement for bond and disclosure counsel with Ahlers Cooney, but put it on hold until they have more information about the changes to the Tax Increment Financing, or TIF, law.
They also decided to refer the former Pape land to the planning and zoning commission for rezoning and voted to plat 43 lots.
The council also talked about the city park master plan. They heard that the parks & recreation board recommends replacement of the Playground Paradise in City Park.
They tabled any action on the Children’s World issue until they know more from the state.
Crossroads Pavilion Event Center manager, Katricia Meendering, told them about a storage building request. They would like to request $151,000 for a climate-controlled storage building. At the meeting, she was asked to provide a rendering of the plan, which she said she would do.
The council voted to set a hearing for a Beck Engineering TIF incentive for June 3rd. They approved the RIDES fiscal year 2027 agreement and agreements with community action agencies, Upper Des Moines and Mid Sioux Opportunity.
The council held a public hearing for a budget amendment for the fiscal year that is wrapping up. There were no comments, and the budget amendment passed. They set a hearing for June 3rd for a potential city revenue waiver for a Trilogy lot for a triplex. They also heard from Larry Smith of Perspective Insurance about insurance renewals and held the first readings of amendments to the water and sewer ordinances. The new water ordinance would raise the price by an average of six percent, and four percent for the sewer ordinance.
After a brief recess and a brief closed session, the council came back into open session to have City Attorney Micah Schreurs tell those in attendance that the city manager evaluation would be tabled until the June 3rd meeting.
