Waterloo Man Faces Grooming Charges After Lyon County Sting

Rock Rapids, Iowa — A Waterloo man has been arrested on a warrant for a felony grooming charge after a sting run by Lyon County deputies.

A Lyon County Sheriff’s Office complaint alleges that 42-year-old Zachary McBride of Waterloo proposed illegal sexual acts to someone he thought was a 13-year-old girl and that he allegedly sent her nude pictures of himself. He was arrested on a warrant on Monday.

In his statement, the deputy says McBride used Snapchat to communicate with the would-be victim, who he later found out was instead a law enforcement officer.

McBride was charged with grooming, a class D felony. If convicted, he could face up to five years in prison.

No court dates have yet been set in the case, and custody and bond details are not yet available.
