Graettinger, Iowa (KUOO) — Upper Des Moines Opportunity (UDMO) is sharing more information about a recent grant that will support food pantry operations in five of the 12 counties they serve in the region.
The $20,000 grant from the Taylor Family Farms Foundation will assist UDMO food pantries in Emmet, O’Brien, Osceola, Pocahontas, and Wright counties.
Shakira Meyer, Director of Program Development, Compliance, and Reporting for UDMO, says the focus will be on purchasing protein-rich foods.
She says the funding comes at a crucial time.
Meyer says community support is extremely valuable when they apply for such grants.
Meyer says the grant will allow UDMO to purchase protein-rich foods for the five counties, including peanut butter, fresh and frozen meats, eggs, canned meats, and beans.
