Governor Says Case Closed on Resignation, Firing of Two IPERS Officials

Des Moines, Iowa (RI) — Governor Kim Reynolds says there are no more details to share about the departures of two top managers from the Iowa Public Employees’ Retirement System, or IPERS.

The agency’s CEO and its chief benefits officer were placed on administrative leave in April. Earlier this month, Reynolds announced that the CEO had resigned and the benefits officer had been fired. She says the exits were due to a personnel issue.

Greg Samorajski, IPERS’ CEO since 2020, resigned May 1st after six years with the agency. Last year, he hired Steven Herbert to be the system’s chief benefits officer; the two previously worked together at a firm in Alaska.

Herbert was fired May 7th. He had been fired from a similar position in Kentucky four years ago.
