Statewide Iowa (RI) — Crude oil prices are falling since a peace agreement was announced Sunday between the U.S. and Iran, though gasoline prices in Iowa are dropping more slowly.
AAA Iowa spokesman Brian Ortner predicts it’ll be good news for Iowa consumers as we approach the busy summer travel season and the Independence Day holiday.
Iowa’s statewide average is around $3.69 per gallon, down only a penny or so since Sunday.
The peace accord could be signed as soon as Friday, though Ortner says it’s unclear how long it will take for oil shipments to return to a normal pace.
AAA will release its July 4th travel forecast next week.
A quick check of prices on gasbuddy.com shows some stations in northwest Iowa over $4.00 per gallon; a price of $3.99 in Inwood; $3.90 in Granville; $3.89 in George; $3.79 in Alton, Paullina, Hawarden, and Sibley; $3.72 in Rock Rapids; $3.69 in Sheldon and Sanborn; $3.64 in Sioux Center; and only $3.49 in Boyden and Hull.
