Ireton, Iowa (Sioux County Radio) — An Ireton man has been charged with a felony count after the Sioux County Sheriff’s Office says deputies determined he was illegally in possession of a firearm.
According to the sheriff’s office, 37-year-old Jesse Cole Andrews was arrested Saturday, June 6th, around 9:30 p.m. following an investigation at a home along 440th Street near Ireton.
Deputies say Andrews had a firearm while legally prohibited from possessing one due to a prior domestic-abuse conviction. He was cited for possession of a firearm by a domestic-abuse offender, a Class D felony. If convicted, he could face up to five years in prison.
According to the criminal complaint, deputies allegedly found Andrews in possession of a Savage Model 64 .22-caliber rifle. Court documents state Andrews admitted to having the rifle when a deputy arrived to speak with him about an unrelated matter.
Jail records show Andrews was booked into the Sioux County Jail and later released Sunday, June 7th, after posting a $5,000 cash or surety bond.
